Great location in Orchard Road Mar 16, 2011
Though it has great location (just across & to the right of Somerset Mall Orchard Road)it is a 2-3star hotel. My perception has improved with this 2nd visit compared to my first stay. During my 1st visit, I got bed bugs from the heavy blanket duvet at the lower floor rooms.

Now I'm on the top floor and the room has more modern design and cleaner room (heavy duvet was completely removed). Though I can't adjust the aircon when room got bit hot at midnight and the toilet didnt properly flush. I also didnt feel any friendliness from the receptionists, no greeting & thank yous. Only 1 receptionist handling check-out when other 2 are just watching (maybe because only 1 PC for check-out? Then another receptionist arrived after 15mins and opened another PC. So what where the other 2 receptionists, interns?) Breakfast for extra SGD15/person is bit disappointing.

You'll definitely get a 3-star service here and nothing more.

Not as good as it would like to make out... Aug 04, 2008
The first stop in our trip was here at the rather pretentiously titled Grand Central hotel in Singapore.

We got a taxi from the airport, and the driver struggled to find the place. We weren't sure if this was a good sign or not...

I guess my first impression was tainted by the image I'd built up in my head of a hotel that was a) GRAND and b) CENTRAL. In reality, this one looked like an office block, and was tucked back off of Orchard Road. In truth, it did turn out to be quite central, but the 'Grand' was a total misnomer.

The room was spacious and well air conditioned. The bathroom left a little to be desired and looked like it was in need of a refurbishment. The room had a TV, but only a handful of the promised channels worked. My mate's phone was irrevocably damaged when the plug socket in his room blew up. In all, not that impressive.

The staff were polite and friendly - especially the doorman who chased us off when we dared to try and carry our own bags across the threshold!

Breakfast was ok - a help yourself buffet (an attempted full-English - though chicken sausage and beef bacon will always be a bit wrong...)

The main problem we had were the rates we got charged through the company we'd booked with. This hotel is nothing fancy, the prices we paid were...
