Grand Canyon Day Trip

Belive it or not this was a "day trip" I made from Phoenix.I woke up at 3am and drove from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon solo. It was a very simple drive, just LONG.Getting there I decided I was going to do a 8 mile hike, so I did! I will have to say that from where I was the Bright Angel Trail isnt as pretty from inside the canyon as it is outside, but I know I didnt go in far enough to see the real beauty of it all.I had the pleasure of meeting a number of German and English folks walking alo...

We drove to the Grand Canyon around 10:00 AM and stayed there until 3:00 PM. We stopped at a bunch of overlooks of which I thought the Hopi Overlook was the best view. It was truly spectacular and there aren't words to describe how tiny I felt standing at the rim and looking out ten miles across a gash in the very landscape. There was a strange mix of humility, awe and strength forming a cacophonous silence between the crowd and the canyon. I was just dumbstruck and had that same feeli...

Headed out around 9:00PM from Orange County,CA making a stop in Las Vegas for gambling. Arrived at Zion National Park in Utah with no sleep at around 7:00 AM. Spent a couple days there, then headed to Bryce Canyon National Park to find it snowing. From there headed through Lake Powell to Flagstaff for a couple nights and a day trip to Grand Canyon. Then south to Lake Havasu for time on the lake with friends/family. Home by Saturday night after a week long trip in time to start school on Monday!

Had a great visit out west, mostly to southern Utah. Visited many national and state parks. I think my favorites were Zion NP and Kodachrome SP, though it is tough to choose. Anyway, I don't need to go to Europe now because all the Europeans were over here :). I'd estimate 80% or more of the people in the national parks were from Europe (even more when you got on the trails). Met many great people from all over. This is a beautiful part of the world. Enjoy the pictures!

the drive  took a few hours from Sedona to get to the Grand Canyon with a stop in flagstaff for warmer clothes, there was snow on the ground up there and we were defiantly not prepared for that at all. we got into the grand canyon in the late afternoon sunday. we waisted no time to make it out to the rim and it is so beautiful. i didn't really remember how huge it is. i know it sounds silly because it is the GRAND CANYON and all but WOW! we hiked around until it got to dark to...
