This trip actually started as a school field trip. My class spent 4-5 days traveling all around Arizona hitting up Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sedona, Grand Canyon and other stops in between. Our sight seeing started at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West. While not a national park site, it was still pretty interesting. The best part was probably sitting inside Frank's living room in his specially-designed chair - thank God for air conditioning in Arizona! ...

Thursday- Tyler and I decided to get up just after 5 am in hopes of catching the sunrise over the Canyon. Dawn, never a morning person, decided to sleep in. "I'll look at the video later", she mumbled as she rolled over in her sleeping bag. Her loss! There was a chill in the morning air as we zipped up our tents and hopped in the truck. We headed over to the same overlook where we watched the lightning show the night before, thankful the sunrise hadn't started yet.&nbs...

Today began with a very early start. We had set the alarm to wake us up in time to see the sunrise while sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon. A few of us huddled on the cliffs and waited for the sun to show itself and expose the magnificent colours little by little until the Canyon was a blaze of red with beautiful blue skies overhead. It was a wonderful, magical moment I will never forget.
There was a helicopter ride booked to take us over the Canyon today for anyone on the tour...

A beautiful day. Perfect for a "big" hike. Weeks before back in Germany we had decided to walk down into the canyon at least once. Plateau Point was our designated destination. It was awesome. Most strenuous, though. I am quoting from my review:"We started arround 6:00 in the morning with one gallon of water each.
At this time temperatures were moderate and the trail offered some
shade. The first mile of the trail following the Cinch-up-curve is the
steepest part of the hike. No problem at...

Today was the day! We’re going to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. We had to be at Scenic Airlines, about a mile south of the hotel, at 7:30AM. As expected we were running behind, but we made it only about 10 minutes late. That was no big deal, as our flight did not leave until 8:00. “Our flight” that I mentioned was going to be the start of a really great day. At 8 AM all four of us would board a small plane and fly from the airport here on the South side of the Canyon, to the West side...

Day 6: We drove from LA to Grand Canyon early that day and arrived at the South Rim in the evening. We stayed on a campground about 2-3 miles from the rim in the woods. Once we left the car, we were surrounded by deer, which is very gentle there, because it´s used to humans. It got dark pretty soon (between 9 and 10 pm), so we had little time to drink the beers we had left from our stay in Hollywood. However, we slept pretty early, which wasn´t too bad, since we got up at 4:30am the followi...

Again, not a long ride today, but we should see some great sites.
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon was today’s trek. It’s only eighty miles south of Kanab, Utah to the most south end of the road at the Park. We got there and began our day of strolling, walking, hiking, or whatever you wish to call it. Whichever, I forgot to put on my sunblock. Little did I realize that I would be out of the car most of the day and hiking out to a point at which I felt pretty uncomfortable, ...

There are no words to describe this masterpiece that Mother Nature has created for us. I was not prepared for the enormity of the Grand Canyon and when I walked up to the edge of it for the first time, my breath was literally taken away from me! I viewed the Canyon from the South Rim. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to hike through it, so that remains high on my list of things to do in the future.

Canyon time! I had been waiting for so long to get to the Grand Canyon and I had chosen a means of transport that didn't involve any form of flying. Not that I am scared of flying but that I am petrified of small planes every since I was in a Cessna in Australia and was actually relieved I could jump out at 10,000 feet just to avoid staying in the 40 year old converted crop duster. The Pink Jeep Tour is great and our guide John was friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic not to be doing his o...

We woke up early, picked up our bagged lunch and started out on the Kaibab Trail! We all paces ourselves the same distance but then as usual we started to drift apart. Through the hike up, atleast half the hike, Dave was my hiking partner. It was good to have some company and talk. We talked just about everything and enjoyed the view on the way up. when we first started out hike we passed the Mule Train... they were bringing down some food and mail for the w...
