Grand Canyon National Park Overview

Grand Canyon N.P. is a wonderful place. The south rim is a convient drive from Flagstaff. There are many overlooks there but at least half are closed to personal traffic where you have to take a bus to see the overlooks. The ground is flat and its very hot in the summer, though it stays open all year. However in the summer peak season when the Park Service gets enough visitors they lock the gates and dont let any more people in. Bummer if you drive a long distance to see the south rim.

I like the north rim of the Grand Canyon better, though its closed for a 4 to 5 month winter season due to heavy snow. It is 2000 feet higher than the south. In the summer it has warm days and cool nights. The North rim has rolling hills, beautiful meadows, large ponderosa pines and aspens, and wildlife and much less people cuz its considerably further away from Flagstaff. There are only a few very nice overlooks on the north rim.
