Grand Canal Hotel Dublin Reviews
clean, out of the way hotel Sep 14, 2011
I stayed here for the first of three nights in Dublin. I would have stayed here the whole time, but they wanted to charge me 3x as much on the third night as they charged the other two. no thanks.
The first issue I ran into with this hotel was that no one knew where it was. I took the bus from Dublin Port to the city center, and began asking around to see what the cheapest way to get to the hotel was. No one knew where it was located, despite me having an address. Finally, a transit worker called the hotel for me, and after they assured him that it was a quick walk, I set out toward (what I thought was) the hotel.
Long story short, I walked around Dublin for 45 minutes, stopping every so often to ask for directions. Again, NO ONE knew where this hotel was. At one point, I stopped a cab, and asked to be taken to the hotel, but he wasn't sure where it was.
After losing my mind and almost breaking down on the side of the road, I stopped into a gas station, and a kind man finally gave me directions (to his credit, it was just down the road).
I got to the hotel, checked in, and made it to my room. It was very nice-clean, spacious, and had a nice bathroom. There was a nice bar/restaurant, as well as a gym, but by this point I was so tired, I just crashed.
I decided to order room service, and had pizza. It was pretty terrible (but I don't think Ireland is known for its pizza), and it cost an arm and a leg.
I fell asleep on my wonderful bed, and awoke refreshed for another adventure in Dublin. When it came time to pay, however, I got my second surprise in as many days. What was originally supposed to be a 60 euro/night rate turned into a 100 euro/night rate. And, they hadn't taken off the booking fee they were supposed to from when I booked online. I politely argued, but the lady at the desk wasn't very helpful. At this point, I just gave up and paid the rate. I was pointed in the right direction for my next hotel, which thankfully was a 15 minute walk down one street.
I would recommend the hotel, but know what you're getting into. It's not the closest to the action, which may or may not be what you want. but the hotel is nice. Make sure you're super clear about how much you're paying, or you might get a surprise.

Grand Canal Hotel Dublin Mar 04, 2011
This hotel is in a good location as it is within walking distance of the main attractions in dublin but far enough away to feel relaxed and quiet. My room was of a good standard and the beds were comfortable which is always a bonus when travelling.
I would of liked to have fridge in the room but as it was a short visit it wasnt really an issue and the coffee bar in the reception sells cold water in the morning.
I would recommend this hotel for short weekend stays, for longer visits its worth paying a little more to get all the little luxuries.
