Granary Burying Ground Reviews
Crowded but worth seeing Oct 10, 2009
This is the final resting place for many Patriots. I have a personal connection here as my ancestor Robert Treat Paine is buried here but this cemetery is also the final resting place for Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin's parents, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, victims of the Boston Massacre, Mother Goose and many, many others. It was teeming with people the day we were there, but worth a look. I would have loved to have been there on a less crowded day as the cemetery has a peaceful feel to it, and is definitely the proper resting place for these esteemed individuals.

The trail is a self-lead walk which winds throughout the city and which is designated by a red line on the ground (painted on concrete in some parts, inlayed in red brick in others). This trail starts the visitor at the Boston Common and passes by the state house (with its distinctive golden dome), the Granary Burying Ground (where Paul Revere and John Hancock rest), the location… A DAY TRIP TO BOSTON |

Then it was to (4) Granary Burying Ground , the final resting place of the patriots, including John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and Paul Revere. I went to find the graves of these people, but could only find that of Paul Revere's. After that, it was the (5) King's Chapel… Freedom Trail |

My favorite stop on the Freedom Trail, because I have a personal connection to it was the Granary Burial Ground. One of my ancestors on my mom's side is Robert Treat Paine, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He is buried at the Granary Burial Ground, so I didn't go for Benjamin Franklin's parents or Paul Revere's grave… The Freedom Trail awaits! |
