(entry written in the train)I'm currently in the train to Valencia, leaving Granada with a heavy heart. I though it was bad enough leaving Sevilla but this feels somewhat worse because firstly, I had so much fun in Granada and secondly, I'm not looking forward to Valencia as much as I was looking forward to Granada last Saturday. I think Granada is really the gem of Spain. You haven't seen Spain if you haven't seen Granada... or Andalucia in genral. I love this region and would probably...

Peter is a
better juggler than Andrew. We wait for the bus to Granada as we pass the time, entertaining
passengers. The journey will take us three full hours.
By the time we arrive in the Granada
bus station it is early evening. It isn't a long walk to the camping, where we
set up our tents. Then we catch a bus downtown and find something to eat. Mmmm,
those lovely Spanish tortilla's!
After dinner it's too late for another bus. All a bit tipsy from the wine we
decide to walk our wa...

Arriving in Granada we went straight for Alhambra. I had been there some years ago and I just loved the place - it is culture, history and beauty in one wonderful mix. The girls had not been there before so I was some kind of guide for them.
It was actually quite funny that last time I was there it was in November and I was lucky enough to walk around in 25 degrees and when I now visit it again in May I have only 15 degrees and light rain.
As usual when you visit this place...

We spent the bulk of today in the Alhambra.
We had to take this tiny bus (all the buses were pretty small in
Granada since the streets are so skinny... I always felt like we were
going to run into a wall or squish someone against the side of one) up
the hill to the entrance. We got off in the wrong place, as usual, and
had to hike up another hill to get to the gates. We got in pretty quick
since we’d gotten tickets ahead of time through some stupid touristy
pass we had to get in o...

Today was just a relaxing day. I didn't wake until late, as usual, and then I walked to the train station which wasn't as far as I thought it would be. When I came into town I had taken a cab since it was so late but then when I looked at the map a bit I realized that it was close enough to walk. I figured out the train trip to Cadiz which only costs 4€ since I have the eurorail pass and then on the way back I walked up to Albyzier. I don't think I spelled that corre...

Next morning straight at 6am we decided to go to Alhambra. We couldn't miss it. We didn't know much about Spain by the time of the trip, but we surely knew Alhambra. I am not going to tell you much about it, everyone who is interested knows a bit or two. I will remember it quiet and cool early in the morning with only few tourists. We walked there for about 6 hours and didn't get tired a bit.
After that we decided that it is time for some change, enought cold beauty of the castle, we needed...

With less than 2.5 hours away from Malaga, Granada is the last Moorish stronghold city in the Iberian Peninsula. It is a city defined by its artistic grandeur embracing Moorish palaces and Christian Renaissance treasures.Sunday, February 18, 2007: Checking in at the hotel was a breeze. We hurriedly went out to begin our exploration of Granada. A walking tour, visit to the cathedral and Alhambra were already planned for the next day so we all decided to see other parts of Granada. We...

After an easy going breakfast at the Guerrero café we started of for the cathedral. After the ones we saw in Madrid and Sevilla this wasn't a blast. I think it could look a lot better if it was maintained properly by the city. Many of the artwork, architecture, gold and silver were dirty or declined. Last time I was in Granada teachers planned our trip and they made us skip the cathedral. I now know why. Better things are to be seen in Granada, and better cathedrals elsewhere in Spain. I was...

Next day the weather had improved a bit (aka sunny but now a bit less windy). As we took off from Almeria and drove towards the palace Alhambra in Granada the landscape changed drastically... from a sandpit with few trees and green up into the mountains where the trees started and everything was green and the snow covering the ground with a thin layer..
At Alhambra it was only 5C and I think the decision not to wear shorts and flip flops was a brilliant one as we were freezing...

We took the train from Sevilla to Granada. This one was slower and the constant movement of a shaky train apparently puts me to sleep in under a minute. This was most embarassing when I'd try write in my journal but instead I'd fall asleep and wake up with pen all over me. We stayed in a 4-star hotel, which was very, very nice. Heated towel racks, continental breakfast, and it was in a very central-spot. Granada was interesti...

It is Palm Sunday, and the streets of Granada are full of people dressed up -- and many of them with palm tree branches and fans. It's a very festive feeling. I did have to go back to the spice market at the cathedral again today to pick up lavendar, tea and saffron for more of the people at the convention who were not able to get out to the markets. They too loved the smell of the items I had picked up previously. I bought over 100 Euros worth of spices today for this...

I lived and studied in Granada, Spain. I spent time traveling around and soaking in the language. We tried to get out every weekend in the surrounding hills, mountains, beaches since bus fare was cheap and locals were friendly and wouldn't speak English:)

We are starting to make more firm plans these days but once we do they change anyway! Want to drive up the east coast of Spain staying near the Mediterranean but make a small detour into the Sierra Navadas in search of a scenic camp site for the night. As we are travelling the inland road a storm brews, we are looking at some spectacular mountains which have glimpses of snow yet again. Andrew is driving and I am looking at the map and realise that the Alhambra Palaces are in...

Laura had ...
