Originally the Romans have brought the wellness and curing concept to Germany - ever since it is very popular. In Germany are more than 350 "Kurorte" - most are called "Bad ....." like Bad Salzungen, Bad Kissingen, Bad Orb etc ... In these towns you can take a wellness vacation, what could be a special Kneipp cure, mud packs or moore torf bath and many more. Like a walking through a Gradierwerk.

A saline silo "Gradierwerk" (Salinen) is a wooden scaffolding built about 4-5 meters high, with roofing over the top of it. Beside it is a walk platform, where you can walk up and down. The scaffolding is filled with blackthorn branches and the mineral water is pumped in a trickle-down fashion through the blackthorn branches, it leaves a mineral salt deposit on the branches and they turn white. Like a dripping waterfall the brine runs down over the branches and thereby increases the saltcontenet of the air surrounding the device is ionised and is a relief in summer for allergy and asthma suffers.

In some "Kurorte" the entrance to the Gradierwerk is free of charge and in others you have to pay a little fee. You do not have to be a "wellness vacationer"!
