Gowanus Yacht Club

Gowanus Yacht Club is a place for beers on tap or bottles, and summer fare of grilled or bbq food.

In truth, GYC does not have any airs or reason to have airs, as its namesake, "Gowanus" is a nod to the nearby canal, actually filthy, mired uncirculated cesspools of the Red Hook neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Situated in Carroll Gardens, yuppie and hipsterville, the name is supposed to capture the "we're so clever and ironic" spirit. Example the self-proclaimed list of D-grade meats for customers to eat.

GYC is actually an outdoors eatery right on the corner with a high wooden picket fence, thrown together rough hewn tables, wonky chairs, umbrellas, tightly packed. Besides the rough appearances, it still is busy, usually packed.

The beers are fairly cheap, especially for the area, a few dollars, $3+ USD. There is a medium-size variety of beers, and of course, the NYC hipster mainstay, PBR, Pabst Blue Ribbon. You can also order a small hamburger, remember "D-grade meat" ;D, hotdogs, a single pickle, really poor quality nachos with jalapenos. I do have to emphasize the poor quality of the nachos, liquid cheese, even cheaper quality then a movie house, though not overpriced as one at $4 USD.

People seem to enjoy the throwback to a tacky summer barbecue in the backyard. I personally could take it or leave it.
