Vegetarian option in Old Town - Govinda's Jul 13, 2009
While I was planning my trip to Ecuador, I read about the local food in Quito. This is mostly about pork and not many veggies. So, I decided I'd try the vegetarian restaurants every chance I had :P
I was in Old Town and this place was the Vegetarian recommended in this area. It wasn't easy to find it, although I had a map. I found the street, but it didn't have any sign outside, just a small blackboard saying: "almuerzos". Then they told me the city hall didn't allow them to put a big sign in this area. As many restaurants they offer the "almuerzos" which are a combination of soup, entrée and dessert. I didn't like the soup that much, so I agreed with the guy just to get the main dish, hehe. They have different options of salads and other dishes, so your entrée would be a combination, nice! Food was home made and tasty. The restaurant was at the front of the building, but inside it was a Krishna's temple. The colonial building was decorated inside with Hindi art. Very nice! Part of the First time in Ecuador, but definitely not the last one :) travel blog

I was looking for a sign saying: "Govinda" but no luck. Then I saw a small place with some tables. I went inside and was that restaurant, haha. It was more than a restaurant, it was a "Hare Krishna" temple, oh! People were really friendly and the food was so healthy and delicious… City girl is back and ready to reassume backpacking :) |
