See the Historic Lodge/Trading Post Feb 23, 2017
Favorite thing: Harry Goulding came to Monument Valley in 1921 and established a trading post with the Navajo out of a tent. He improved it to a building in 1928. The trading post expanded to include a lodge, a restaurant, and a campground. In the 1930s, Harry heard a movie director, John Ford, was looking for a location to film several westerns. Harry sent photos of Monument Valley to Ford who shiowed up to film a movie called "Stagecoach" with a young actor named "John Wayne". The rest as they say "is history". The movie was a great success. Goulding's Lodge is still here, and the trading post is now a museum. All set in a beautiful area. Admission to the museum is free. Donations are appreciated and all profits go to area students.

I have not stayed at the lodge; so I cannot review it as an accomodations tip. The lodge is pretty expensive.
