Good Medicine Lodge Whitefish Point Reviews
Whitefish Point ... a beautiful place to experience Lake Superior and touch the water that took many ships down Aug 03, 2008
This is an inexpensive day trip where the only cost will be a souvenir and the drinks you may buy or picnic you pack ... oh, I almost forgot, and a good tank of gas! :)
I must say the water at Whitefish Point is very COLD ... but no, that didn't stop our girls from diving into the frigid waters, the same waters that took the EDMUND FITZGERALD ship only 17 miles northwest of Whitefish Point on November 10, 1975. (http://www.exploringthenorth.com/wfishdive/wfish.html) and many other ships ...
As Dan and I played frisbee and our daughters gathered sand, rocks and splashed in the water, I would look out onto Lake Superior (every so often) and grab the camera as huge ships crossed this Great Lake.
The sand here is so smooth, weeds ... no weeds ...
There is a wonderful bird sanctuary but unfortunately insted of taking photos of owls etc (or even seeing them, for it was late afternoon) as we walk through the path these little pests, Mosquitoes, would enjoy a feast on our ankles and behind our ears ... so we didn't last in the sanctuary and quickly returned to the beach to enjoy the sand dunes and take pictures of the Light House that guided many ships in the 'deadly' waters of Lake Superior; home to many shipwrecks.
We were inspired to come here because of the beauty and after 4 trips here this Summer 2008, I began to take note of the history at Whitefish Point ... Alot of tourists visit as we did ... very clean and well cared for and the water is crystal clear ... here are some pics of this place and if in Northern Michigan, do make time for Whitefish Point!!!
