Golzheimer Friedhof (Golzheimer Cemetery) May 22, 2011
Just located north of the old town of düsseldorf, lies golzheim cemetery. Golzheimer friedhof was constructed in the 18th century and a protected monumental site.

the cemetery was also built for the overcrowding of the funeral grave of saint lambertus' church in the old town. It had to be raised for around 2 meters as it is near the rhine river to protect itself from floods. The cemetery was planted with linden and hawthorne trees.

many prominent people from düsseldorf and not basically born from düsseldorf but died here were buried there like: maximilian friedrich weyhe (landscape architect), theodor hildebrandt (painter), elisabeth grube (poet), friedrich wilhelm von schadow (painter) and many more prominent persons in the art noveau era.

today, the cemetery is also a park. Very peaceful and people actually read in the benches and just spending quiet time, although so many new and highrise acrhitectures surrounded the park, it remained solemn and quiet.
