Golden Sands Hotel Apartments Dubai Reviews
Golden Sands Sep 25, 2008
My wife and I stayed in the Golden Sands Dubai in January 2008. We thought it was roomy ,clean and good value compared to all the expensive hotels in Dubai. We had a TV and kitchenette to make our own food. However the restaurant/cafe at Golden Sands was 24 hours.....very handy!! Breakfast could have been better though. Some parts were OK, but not all of it. That is my only moan...the breakfast!! The hotel was also very central for the shopping area of Bur Dubai and the interesting Dubai Creek.
We thought that Dubai Creek with its various old souks nearby and the little cheap abra boats crossing it, had a lot of character. The atmospheric Arabian Courtyard Hotel by the Creek was very interesting too. We had a great Indian meal in there one day, along with live music! We also crossed to Deira by abra and went to the Gold Souk ! Fascinating place !! We heard about that before going when we put "dubai gold souk" into Google UK and found a good description on visit-dubai.co.uk, I think it was. That gold souk had about 200 shops with windows 5 feet square full of ornate ,glistening gold. Much of it suited Indians and Pakistanis, more than westerners . Hindus give this ornate gold as wedding gifts, so shops were full of it . It was pretty easy to get there from Golden Sands[ there are about FIVE Golden Sands ,fairly near it other, but still a few streets apart. Can be confusing finding the right one!!]. Before crossing Dubai Creek [ google it and you will see more info ], there was a textile souk near it. That was fascinating too. It sold all sorts of cloth. The perfume souk and Spice souk were really pleasant on the nose!! All sorts of aromas ... Including frankincense ! Most shops are owned by people from the Indian sub-continent. They outnumber Arabs greatly. Up the road [ taxis are quite cheap] we saw the tallest building in the world, the "Burj Dubai", which is twice the height of the Empire State Building. Amazing!! They are building "Al Burj" a few miles away......even taller ! Dubai is an amazing place , and the Golden Sands is a good , clean affordable centre for exploring both sides of Dubai Creek. I found a lot of stuff on that visit-dubai.co.uk site , so I thought it was helpful. Can I say that? |
