Golden Rax Pizza-buffet Lappeenranta Reviews
A Glutton's Paradise! Nov 15, 2010
Lappeenranta, what a small city and we were rather clueless on what to have for dinner. Pretty much it was our last night there and it would be nice to end it off with a feast!
Being car-less, we explored and wandered about in the city. I forgot to mention it was cold and rainy and the tourist information isn't opened at all! Not even for half a day...seriously, people have such a good life there. Everything opens late and closes early (pretty much most European countries are that way, especially the Dutch).
Anyway, we decided to check out this pizza buffet restaurant. We popped in to check out the price and the time of their operation hour for dinner. Apparently the price was good, it cost 8,95 euro per person for the buffet (all food & drinks included except the ice cream and beer). There's no operation hours for dinner, they're just opened through the day! You can come by to eat even at 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Pretty much, that was what we were going to have for dinner.
We went there around 6:20PM and it was quite crowded. We queued up to pay (17,90 euro for two) and the lady at the cashier presented us with two bowls, two plates and two disposable cups.
You can get the cutleries and serviettes from the buffet counter. They have different types of pizzas, lasagne, onion rings, chicken winglets, a salad bar and soup on the side of the bar counter. For the drinks, it is on the other side of the restaurant, you have to walk pass the pizza making area to get to the drink dispensers.
The pizzas weren't too bad and you can eat as much as you like! Drink as much too. As for beer, my guy went to the cashier where there's a fridge there full of beer. He ordered one bottle (KARHU, Finnish beer) which cost 3,49 EURO. The lady at the cashier wanted to pour the beer into the glass but the glass wasn't cleaned and so were the others. My guy said it's alright and he'd just drink from the bottle. Apparently, she didn't want him to drink from the bottle (we have no idea why) and yup, there was some slight commotion going on there and little miss cashier was all pissy. She raised her voice at my guy and he said, it was either she let him drink the beer from the bottle or he would not pay/buy it. No choice, she let him pay for the beer and drink from the bottle since the glasses weren't clean at all.
Oh well, all I can say is that forget about that pissy attitude but the buffet was worth it. We were really stuffed and besides, free-flow of soft drinks. A nice place to dine in a small city at anytime of the day.
