Better to be had? Dec 12, 2012
This place is popular with groups going trekking. When I stayed there in December, they had around 5 separate large groups doing various treks that morning. 1 day treks, cave visits, 2 or 3 day treks to Lake Inle etc.
A friend of mine really enjoyed the guide and trek, but if you prefer going in smaller groups, you might be better off staying at the Golden Kalaw Inn (where you also get a choice of breakfast).
The rooms are clean enough but the shared bathrooms were really grubby and shabby.
Breakfast was your minimum average served with a greasy fried egg on a chapati ...
If you're in a trekking group, they can arrange guesthouse bookings in Lake Inle if needed. But as I wasn't part one, the owners refused to help me in this regard and were also very reluctant to recommend places to stay ...
If I wasn't travelling on my own and hoping to meet some other travellers, I think Golden Kalaw would have been a better choice all in all.

Cheap guest house and good trekking guide experience May 06, 2011
The guest house is run by the Singh family who originally arrived from Punjab, India some four generations ago. 3USD buys you a sparse green-walled room with wooden floors and a shared bathroom. The facilities are basic but the real value here is the wealth of trekking experience provided by the Singh brothers Harri and Rambo.
In my case, they provided the flexibility to join a group on the second day of a 3-day trek to various hill tribes. The highlight was meeting locals from these tribes including the children who would approach us out of curiousity and an overnight stay in a remote monastry. A fanastic experience as long as you don't mind being woken up at 5am to the sound of novice monks chanting in Pali!
