We picked a place called Golden Hill Bungalows and waited for our ‘free taxi’. What they don’t tell you is that the taxi is a dude who will chuck your bags into a cart and wheel them to your hostel with you following along on foot. Golden Hill is slightly up a hill but it’s not a difficult walk by any stretch of the imagination. The place was nice, run by a one armed guy called Cookie who literally never stopped smiling. A good price for a private room with bathroom and it also had a pool which was a bonus. The one thing that was annoying is that the bathroom water wasn’t the best, but I think that was similar in places throughout the island. 4/5!

Indulge in Nature... Literally Dec 09, 2012
When we arrived on the island and i realised there was no public transport i nearly died! But it only takes about 15 minutes to walk to the bungalows. They're not on the main stretch, but that's probably for the best. The place they actually are, on a little hill, has a wonderful view from the balcony. You overlook a big water reservoir which, ostensibly, as used as a holding area for a lot of bodies after the 2004 tsunami hit Koh Phi Phi. (!!!)

The men that own the bungalows are two men from Yorkshire, England. One of them is particularly cheerful, always called me 'dah-lin!'

The bungalows are spacious enough. The bed was fine. The bathrooms were fine - although if you have a sign reading 'Please do not throw toilet tissue, sanitary pads, planes, trains or automobiles down the toilet. Thank You!' at least provide a bin in the toilet (or the room, at that!).

The bungalows were also a haven for a plethora of wildlife. Most days a band of wild monkeys from the forest behind the complex would take it upon themselves to jump (loudly) onto the rooves. Then one of the guys who works there would emerge with a fully-loaded bb-gun (pellet gun) and start shooting at the critters... then they scarper! No need to worry though, they don't bite (apparently!) and are afraid of humans. We had an ant colony in our bathroom that always had a steady stream of ants emerging from it. We also found a snake, multiple little lizards and mosquitos, among other creatures in our room. But this is all part of the experience i reckon!

Free wifi in the hostel reception, not in the rooms. Lovely swimming pool attached to the hostel. Free towels. Laundry costs 60baht per kilo, which is expensive, but everything on Koh Phi Phi is!

Affordable Accommodation in Kho Phi Phi Mar 18, 2012
With accommodation in Kho Phi Phi being so expensive, it seems that the further you are from the center the cheaper the accommodation is. It is about a 10-15 minute walk from the shops and being such a small island, it is quite close. The advantage of being so far is that it is closer to reach the sunrise point here if you're wanting to catch the morning sunrise.

Location being the issue, little to complain about as it is a clean place and the beds are comfortable and the staff are friendly.
