The Ancient Ceremonial Gate Sep 06, 2017
This ancient gate is located in the Old Town in Yaroslav's Rampart Street (it is called Yaroslaviv Vahl in Ukrainian). This street boasts of the reconditioned apartment houses dating back to the beginning of the last century.

The ancient Golden Gate represents a fortified wall that used to surround Upper Kiev where the nobility, generals and rich merchants used to live in the 11th century. Rank-and-file people lived in еру Lower City located on the same bank of the Dnipro.

The Golden Gate used to be the main ceremonial gate of ancient Kiev in the 11th century. It was built in 1019-1037. The wall served as a protective barrier to defend the city from nomadic tribes that often invaded the country. The Golden Gate turned out to be so strong and reliable that it never allowed any invader to get into the city through them.

It was built in the reign of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (983-1054). There is a monument to Prince Yaroslav the Wise near the reconstructed fortification wall.

The gate was called “golden” because all visitors had to pay a tribute passing it. The place was restored in 1983 and dedicated as a national historical museum.

Golden Gate is located just outside Zoloti Vorota metro station in Yaroslav's Rampart Street:

Phone of the museum: +38 044 278 69 19.
