You go here if the Rising Cock is booked, but a good hostel in its own right! Mar 26, 2012
OK, let's face it: If you go to Lagos, you want to stay at the world famous Rising Cock. But if you're like me and you're going to Lagos on a whim, you may have to settle for another place and the Gold Coast does not disappoint.

The hostel bills itself as a social, yet non-party hostel in the middle of a party town. This is pretty much dead on. There is a good little common area on the roof with a big table and plenty of chairs. Everyone in the hostel meets up there before going out. It's a nice place to schmooze with the other backpackers over a few beers.

The hostel has all the amenities you could want: clean beds and bathrooms, free internet/wifi, kitchen, and lockers. The managers are both very helpful and will point out the very best beaches and a great piri piri chicken joint for you.

Ultimately I did have the option to switch to the Rising Cock after one night, but the Gold Coast was a good spot, and it wasn't worth the hassle. You're in Lagos to party and Three Monkeys is still right around the corner :)
