Visiting Gogol Park Feb 07, 2018
Gogol Park has become a new city park to substitute the old Gorky Park dedicated on June 5, 1937. The City Council tried to refurbish the old Gorky Park twenty years ago, but then gave it up. In the new century, more attention was given to Gogol Park, and it received new pavement, trees and bushes, a kids’ playground and several installations. Truth be told, in the past couple of years, the City Council started rehabilitation of the old Gorky Park.

The monument was manufactured at Mytishchi Art Casting Factory (Moscow region, Russia) and installed in 1957. The Russian inscription on the pedestal reads, “N.V.Gogol, 1809-1852”. This monument created a nice micro-ensemble downtown. It forms, as it were, a site of a special, artistic, intellectual environment in a noisy and bustling urban setting. Eight radii of paved sidewalks converge in the center where the monument stands. Looking at Gogol’s statue, you involuntarily remember his words, "It's boring in this world, gentlemen!" However, I will think of something else: something like a poem... Such years began to approach, when by itself a question comes to every action: why and for what do you do it? I saw that in my works I laugh in vain, in vain, without knowing why. If you laugh, it is better to laugh strongly at what is really worthy of universal mockery."

Gogol Park has turned into the central city park. The City Leisure Center is located right opposite Gogol Park and is separated from the city leisure center by Chemical Workers' Avenue. Different rallies, exhibitions, art workshops for kids and teenagers, and concerts take place here. There is a modern kids’ playground here. The Collegium (former Secondary School No.3) faces Gogol Park and Gogol monument that stands in the middle of the park.

There is a Gogol Park community group that is engaged in spring cleaning, gardening and installations in Gogol Park.

If you happen to be walking in Gogol Park, located opposite the City Leisure Center, do not miss the Loving Heart installation. It has become a good tradition for the newly-weds to arrive here during their wedding ride about the city and to tie wish ribbons on the heart or to attach a lock to it. The heart is made of wrought iron and already contains a lot of such locks and ribbons.

Saturday is our traditional wedding day, so you have a chance of seeing the newly-weds approaching this installation at around noon.
