'The Temple with thousand of bats' Oct 10, 2012
We took a trip to Goa Lawah, a Temple in the Bat Cave. Located in Klungkung and Karangasem Regency, precisely in the Village of Pesinggahan, Dawan district. If you are on a trip Candidasa will definitely pass this Temple. This temple is a vast temple complex located on the left side of the Ocean coastal Road heading to Karangasem and Candidasa. A small fee to Enter the Temple is to be paid and people wearing shorts must take and wear a Sarong. Please remember this is a Sacred place for Worship and prayer and some areas are out of bounds to Visitors.

Right after the main entrance stand two large banyan tree in the extensive gardens well maintained. Heading into the center, there are three bale in three complex angles. Bale or open building with a roof, usually used to prepare offerings or place for the ensemble to play their instruments.

You will be amazed to see how everyone can concentrate on praying in the midst of thousands of bats squeaking noise in the cave. Even the sound of squeaking bats at the cave like creating a mystical atmosphere and naturally, the same as when meditating in the forest.

Religious activities take place every day at the Pura Goa Lawah. People living around the temple carrying offerings to the temple every morning, afternoon, and evening. Therefore the temple is well taken care of. More pilgrims come during the full moon. And also before the big feast as Nyepi, Hindus from neighboring villages around the Melasti ritual. Melasti is a ritual when people walk into the sea from the temple in a procession carrying sacred objects accoss the black Volcanic sandy beach to be cleansed in the Ocean. If you should go on the beach yourself you will be able to see views of the island of Nusa Penida on the horizon.
