Gloucester Overview

Gloucester is a city located on Cape Ann in Essex County, Massachusetts, roughly 40miles northeast of Boston. Gloucester was founded in 1623 by the "Dorchester Company" - an exhibition chartered by James I of England. This makes Gloucester the oldest settlement in what would become Massachusetts - predating both Salem and Boston itself.

Gloucester has a very proud fishing and shipbuilding history with its most famous seafood business being what is presently known as Gorton's, dating back to 1849 under various names.

Gloucester also claims to be the origin of the schooner, with the first reportedly being built there in 1713.

Gloucester is widely known for the movie A Perfect Storm starring George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg that was released in 2000. This movies was based on actual events that took place in 1991.
