Sedap (Delicious) Peranakan Food Nov 25, 2008
My favourite singaporean cuisine!

Peranakan/Nonya cuisine combines Chinese, Malay and other influences into a unique blending of Chinese ingredients and wok cooking techniques with spices used by the Malay community.

The food is often tangy, aromatic, spicy and herbal, with key ingredients: coconut milk, galangal ginger, candlenuts, laksa leaf, pandan leaves, belachan, tamarind juice, lemongrass, torch ginger bud, jicama, kaffir lime leaf, rice or egg noodles and cincaluk.

Glory Catering is actually a cafe/restaurant/catering and the specialty is the authentic Nasi Padang, Mee Rebus and Nonya Kueh. Other Nonya delights include spicy sambal sotong, fish and prawns, assam fish, curry/assam fish head, keroma/curry/rendang chicken, tahu goreng, lontong, mee siam, laksa (my favourite), achar, terong (eggplant) and sayur lodeh.

I have tried many peranakan food in Singapore, Malaysia, Sydney and even Melacca, and I find Glory Catering extremely affordable and delicious. The beef and mutton rendang is to die for, and their signature chilli chicken is absolutely devine! Don't forget to try the sambal chilli condiment!

Beware: Most/all of the food are spicy, so be prepared for a hot experience!!!
