Elegant Historical Hotel Jan 01, 2010
We have enjoyed multi day stays at the Glorietta Bay Inn on prior occasions. We have chosen the Christmas season because there is a fun Christmas parade in Coronado (see the city website for date/time info) and the decorations at the Hotel del Coronado (across the street from the Glorietta Bay Inn) should not be missed.

The Glorietta Bay Inn is somewhat pricy, but compared to other properties in the region, we believe it offers the best value for amenities. The mansion portion of the inn is the restored Spreckels mansion. The rooms in the mansion are beautifully furnished in period antiques with fresh flowers, a bedtime snack and turndown service for the feather beds; among other amenities (Disclaimer- We have been in, but not slept in these rooms) We might be able to do these in our next life if we come back comfortably rich.

The suites (a less historic part of the hotel) where we have stayed, are quite spacious and well equipped with a wide range of high end amenities. The rooms (where we have also stayed) are standard high end , but also receive the delightful extras the inn provides. The rooms have a great layout with a sofa and king bed. All rooms have wireless internet. Breakfast is excellent and can be enjoyed inside or on the patio. Afternoon lemonade with fruit and cookies is provided. Excellent restaurants and cute touristy shops are nearby.

The music room provides a pleasant venue for visiting with other guests in the evenings. We spent a pleasant evening listening to the player piano in the music room. We also walked across the street to the Hotel Coronado to see their Christmas tree. It was quite impressive but there was some kind of event happening and it was very crowded. During our stays we have never had anything other than excellent service and support from the staff. In fact, we have spent time visiting with maids, groundskeepers, front desk staff and the managers. All have been very (and sometimes beyond) helpful.

Note: while Coronado Island is delightful and small it is best to have a car if you wish to see the many sights in the region in a shorter period of time-- (A rented red Jeep convertible if you are Sylvia). This is true regardless of where you stay. Sorry we don’t have photos, but the Glorietta Bay Inn website images are actually representative.... and Jenn79 wrote a great review and included photos..

This hotel is literally right across the street from hotel Del Coronado and have much more reasonably priced rooms. This inn is separated into 2 types of rooms, the "mansion" rooms and the more modern rooms surrounding the mansion. The mansion rooms are about $100 more expensive (average $275) but are really nicely decorated and have a huge flat screen television plop in the middle of a Victorian room.

Some nice touches are the delivered breakfast, and the cookies and milk that are sent to the rooms each night. Their lamps and fixtures are well chosen and very cozy!
Walkway around the modern units
Crown room in "The Mansion"

Patio area next to front entrance.

Its location is seven miles from San Diego Zoo, eight miles from Seaport Village, 20 miles from Sea World, and 30 miles from Legoland. Hotel amenities include the heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi, 800-square-foot Mansion Music Room (with its 41-rank Aeolian Pipe Organ, player piano, guest library, board games, and free high-speed Internet access), complimentary continental breakfast, and afternoon lemonade and cookies. The hotel also offers babysitting, laundry facilities, valet laundry service, computer rentals, nightly turndown service in the mansion, 24-hour front desk service, and a concierge.
