Gleneagle Hotel Killarney Reviews
Not good enough Nov 30, 2014
I've stayed here twice now, both times for the AIMS awards held in June every year. Both times I have stayed in a room with a double and single bed, I imagine this would qualify as a family room. With the other facilities available at this hotel, you would expect the rooms to be better, and it's a pity they aren't.
The room I stayed in had the two beds as mentioned, a small round table and two chairs, and a desk... all with barely enough room to get around them. The beds, while comfy, were too short. I am only 5'8" (173cm) and my feet were hanging over the end of the single bed.
The bathroom was clean and the shower was fine. Shower curtain instead of glass though, so the water tends to get out onto the floor. The shower was over the bath, so maybe not as accessible for people with less mobility. Also, they could have done with a few more towels.
There is a gym, pool and golf course, but I have not used these so can't say anything about them. Breakfast (buffet style) was lovely, and the wait staff were very helpful. All the staff were lovely in fact - even in the Backstage bar, which was ridiculously understaffed! The event I was attending hosts about 600-1000 people between the bar and the INEC ballroom, and they only had 3 people on the bar in the Backstage bar.
Obviously the place to stay if you are attending something in the INEC or the hotel itself, but if you just want a weekend in Killarney, stay somewhere else. Price wise it is about average, but there is better options available - Killarney is such a busy town so there is loads of competition. Unfortunately, the Gleneagle doesn't match up to some of the same hotels in it's price bracket.
