Glen Mona Country Pub Reviews
So funny and quite good food Jun 12, 2011
The Glen Mona Country Pub was one of the most laid back restaurants, or pubs I ever been at. I stopped because it was the first place that I saw that was open this Sunday afternoon. It was raining and everything was wet and bikers were seeking shelter as well for the rain so there were many people seeking this place.
When you step in, you almost stumble in to the bar. I looked around and found a group of people eating in the far corner from something that school tables with red and white chequered table cloths. In the corner there was a sofa group that was brought together from a flee marked full of bad taste furniture.
I asked for the menu and the young guy behind the counter pointed towards the wall at the end of the room where everything was written up in different colours. The prices were very fair so I decided to start with a shrimp salad followed by a steak of Scottish prime meat. The food tasted great and the service was friendly but it all was totally cool. It was like you were private guests at a family that cared about you but had no taste.
The house or hotel was built in 1889 as a stopping off point for travellers taking the "Manx Fairy" paddle steamer from Douglas to Ramsey. From the place you overlook Glen Mona and Cornaa Valley and backs onto North Barrule. It is possible to reach this place via the Manx Electric Railway tram stop if you don't have a car.
