Glasgow Overview

Glasgow is a small town of about 3400 (up 4% since 2000) located at the intersection of U. S. Highway 2 (the Hi-line) and Montana Highways 24 and 42 in Valley County in Northeast Montana near the border with Saskatchewan, Canada. The Glasgow area was inhabited for many years by the Nekota, Lakota, and Dakota Tribes. Lewis and Clark traveled within about 15 miles of the future town of Glasgow. Glasgow was established in 1887 as a railroad town and was named after Glasgow, Scotland probably by an employee of the railroad pointing to a spot on the globe as were many of the towns along this part of the railway. Glasgow is the county seat of Valley County.

Glasgow has a nice historic district with several buildings of historic and/or architectural interest. There are 4 individual locations in Glasgow listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
