As Honduras is a third world country, there are plenty of ways that you can help, either in time, money or a donation of school supplies, medical supplies infant formula etc. You don't have to spend a lot of money to make a difference, even just making a trip to the dollar store and picking up some school supplies can make a difference, especially if everyone coming down does it! Giving back adds a whole new dimension to your trip! Here's a link that lists several of the organizations and their sites:

I have to say the organization that has my heart the most is Peggy's, Clinica Esperanza. They now have a new website: www.clinicaesperanza.com Peggy started treating people out of her kitchen, and now, through donations, a beautiful facility has just opened. There's only a charge of 50lemps a person (less than $3), to see a doctor and get the medication you need. Medical care is sorely inadequate on the island (most people go to the mainland for anything serious, if they can afford to), and Peggy is changing that: when it's finished (there are plans to double the size of what it is currently), there'll be a birthing suite, dental suites, surgical suite, as well as the outpatient care. If you have even a few spare hours that you wanted to help out, I'm sure Peggy could put you to use! If you're medically trained and have a week or more to pitch in, even better!
Be a traveller who makes a difference! It'll enrich you in more ways than you could know.
