Givet Vacation Guide
Givet is a town and commune in the Ardennes département of France just on the other side of the Belgian border. The city lies on the river Meuse which I have been following the whole day
The biggest site in this city the fort of Charlemont which Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor built. Later on, another building was added to the fort, the Caserne Rougé, longest barracks of France at that time, named after Pierre François, Marquis de Rougé, general of the French armies k.a. 1761.
I found the city just like many of the small town that you pass when you are driving of the main roads. The village was cosy, especially since the river was running in the midle of down. This is surely a village that grows on you on a summer day. The town square " I actually think that there are a couple of them, one looked more like a marked place and it had a great view of the fort. The fort was naturally placed high above the village and would have had a great view over the river and the village when it was at its high. The other town square was smaller but had the Hotel de Ville" most of the houses were built in stone but have had seen their best day.
On another little square along the river I found the city attraction on such a rainful day.
