Giriama Dancing & Drumming - Mida - TravBuddy

Sitting by a large campfire under the stars and listening to African drumming was the definite highlight of our trip in Africa - especially at full moon! The Giriama Drummers and Dancers are based in Mida Creek, where they have their practising ground in the Mida Ecocamp. Ususally they play at the local weddings and funerals, but now they can be also booked for a personal performance.
I found it pretty amazing, that lots of people from the surrounding homesteads turned up and enjoyed the fun just as much as we did. It just showed us, that we are here for 'the real thing'. The crazy frontman of the group swings his legs high in the air, kicks up the sand and keeps everyone amused. The ladies have a routine of wriggling their hips without end and follow quite simple steps, while the drummers are breaking out in sweat.
We had the group booked on many occasions during our 8 month stay and they never disappointed! And some nights only finished with the sunrise...
