Great food but not so great service. Oct 21, 2007
As a local I've had quite a few chances to try Giovanni's. The food is really good but every time I've gone the service has been terrible! The food has taken an inexcusable amount of time on days when there are only two tables of customers and we've overheard the owner (who I went to High School with) making derogatory remarks (I'm sure he didn't realize anyone heard him besides the man he was having a conversation with but my fiance heard him load and clear). On one occasion my fiance and I were eating there and the owner proceeded to walk out the back of the restaurant (we were eating outside) with a large pet snake. I know the snake was not near the food but I am deathly afraid of snakes so watching that thing slither on the ground 20 ft. away from me behind the building was enough to make me lose my appetite. We had to leave.

I will get their food again but I think I'd prefer to get it to go and make sure that I am not starving when I order.

Giovanni's is a seafood market and eatery in Morro Bay, which is very popular among locals and visitors. You often see a long line in front of the store. It is located right by the water, and you have a good view of Morro Rock while you eat on the deck. Their menu includes fish & chips, seafood cocktails, sandwiches, and burgers. They also have pretty good clam chowder, and that's what I always order. Inside of the building is a fish market where you can buy fresh fish and crabs (you can buy cooked ones, too). This is a good place to stop by after a walk on the beach or visiting Morro Bay State Park. Watch out for those seagulls lining up on the roof that are waiting for a chance to steal your food! Ha-ha! :)
