Gimli is a lake-side town of only ~6000 people, strong in Icelandic roots. There is a huge Viking statue in the main part of town signifying this.

Gimli is also home of Seagrams distillery (Crown Royal whisky, for example).

Walk up and down the boardwalk, along the docks, or enjoy the beach. The main strip has crafty shops as well as fast food/ice cream joints.

Íslendingadagurinn, an Icelandic festival is hosted here every year on August long weekend.
