Some much needed culture in a new city! Nov 12, 2013
There isn't much information available on "The Golden Temple" or Gilsangsa, as it is known locally. Most visitors only find out about it after seeing it from the platforms at the KTX station. It's very small, but beautiful, especially on sunny days. The temple is within easy walking distance from the Changwon Jungang KTX station. Because it is so small, the temple does not participate in Korea's temple stay program.

The walls are painted gold, not actually made of gold (at least not as far as I could tell). It is a functioning temple, so you're more likely to see monks and practicing Buddhists than tourists. I actually felt out of place and a little perverse taking pictures because I was the only one doing so. Having seen other temples in Korea, I don't think this one is worth coming to Changwon for. If you are, however, already in Changwon and looking for something to see or do, then the Golden Temple shouldn't be missed.
