Giethoorn Vacation Guide
Giethoorn is a village in the north-east of The Netherlands in the province of Overijssel. It is also called the Venice of the North by many due to all the waterways that run though and lakes that surround it.
Most of the village is not accessible by car, only by bicycle or on foot. Traditionally weddings and funerals were done on boats.
It was the location of a famous Dutch movie "Fanfare", which was filmed here in 1958. There is a cafe restaurant of the same name in the village. For the 50th anniversary a lot of activities are organised this year. (2008)
There are several museums, restaurants and boat hire places. Accommodation in the form of a "boatel", B&B, holiday homes, and camping.
It can e very busy but just outside the centre of the city you can become one with nature, al you have to do is hire a silent boat and get one the water.

Today Patricia and i went to Giethoorn for checking Hoeve Montigny, this is our accommodation for the meet up from 3 till 5 july in Giethoorn.
Hoeve Montigny is situated near the water and to Giethoorn it's about 4 kilometers.
