Giethoorn is a village in the north-east of The Netherlands in the province of Overijssel. It is also called the Venice of the North by many due to all the waterways that run though and lakes that surround it.
Most of the village is not accessible by car, only by bicycle or on foot. Traditionally weddings and funerals were done on boats. It was the location of a famous Dutch movie "Fanfare", which was filmed here in 1958. There is a cafe restaurant of the same name in the village. For the 50th anniversary a lot of activities are organised this year. (2008) There are several museums, restaurants and boat hire places. Accommodation in the form of a "boatel", B&B, holiday homes, and camping.

Sunday 25 mai 2008, first meet up with Patricia in Giethoorn!
We met eachother in Giethoorn, a nice place where we both like to come. It was for me and also for Patricia the first meet-up with an TB. The weather was not so great, it was a little bit raining and to cold, so we went to the fanfare, an great haunt in Giethoorn! The same name as the film that was taken there 50 years ago! After stuffing ourselves at Anton's for a couple of hours, we drove to Giethoorn, which is a village about 8 kilometers down the road. We parked the cars at one of the central car parks and walked to Smit's Paviljoen, a cafe restaurant situated on one of the lakes. We sat outside and had a drink here.
