Packed up our tent at Tarifa and spread the damp washing over the gear in the van. The van has been leaking oil from the left hand front so it is a daily routine to check it in the morning. The owner at the car hire firm knows about it but the mechanic doesn't know from where it originates. If the oil pressure switch is over on that side, then I would hazard a guess it has something to do with it as it only leaks when the van has been travelling so it appears to happen ...

My friend, Scottie, had the day off today from covention duty, so we rented a car and headed off to find Gibraltar. It's about 120km from Granada to Malaga, and then another 120km to Gibraltar. We rented a little Opel Astra Diesel from Avis, and for about $200USD for the car, diesel and insurance round trip, we were on our way! The drive to Malaga was fairly mountainous and very arid. We crossed one river sixteen times (the Rio Guadalmedina) as it snaked back and ...

After two and a half months in Europe we finally broke down and rented a car for 3 days. Today we used it to drive down to Gibraltar, a little over an hour drive.
The city of Gibraltar at the foot of the rock is a very busy and cramped; we drove for a long time looking for a parking space, and could not find one. After giving up on the town we drove up the mountain walked thru St. Michael’s cave, which was interesting. There are troops of monkeys that roam that area, begging and stea...

Gibraltar is relatively small, located on a small peninsula in southern Spain. This area has been coveted by many different empires because of its strategic location on the confluence of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Today, it is owned by the British as a territory. The main characteristic of Gibraltar is the huge rock rising 1,396 feet from the ground, a truly majestic sight. The city below is heavily influenced by the British. English is the official language, but Spani...

Gibraltar...
Not the place I would have chosen to start my cultural escopade across the world, but the Army's paying me for 4 weeks to teach windsurfing for 4 weeks, and what the hell, I guess I do have a price!
Been here 3 weeks now, and am very bored of saying "straighten your arms, bend your knees" SPLASH! The only thing that keeps me sane is regular excursions over the border to Tarifa, which must be said, is lovely and has howling winds.
My unit, 256, was here for the first 2 wee...

C´est parti mon Canari ! Et nous voici en train de croiser 1001 cargos et divers bateaux au coeur du detroit. A tribord l´Europe, a babord l´Afrique. Normal.

Gibraltar was one of the most interesting places I've been to in my life. You could call it part British/Spanish/Arabic and they even have their own language, Gibraltese, that is spoken in two places in the world. After living and traveling that long in nonenglish-speaking countries, it was a splash of ice to find a place where all the signs are in English, and you can understand everyone. Gibraltar is an extremely touristic place, but being as small as it is, it's hard to find a parking...
