probably the best place to look over downtown Jul 31, 2011
Visiting Rome? wanna have a wonderful view over all downtown? then GIANICOLO is the place you are looking for!

You can easily get a bus from Vatican city and in few minutes you arrive in this nice hill in rome downtown! From there you can see all the main sightsee of Rome and by night is even more romantic!

You can also get there from the neighborhood of TRASTEVERE once there you can simply ask for the VICOLO DELLE FRUSTA and you'll find stairs which will allow you to arrive untill the church of San Pietro in Montorio, from there keep on walk and you arrive first at the FONTANONE ( a big semi circular fountain ) and keep on walking on the right side you arrive at gianicolo!

Great views Oct 18, 2010
Gianicolo is a high hill which is situated towards the edge of the city centre, although it actually isn’t even one of the seven hills which define the city. The area is also known as Janiculum, so called after the two-headed Roman god Janus. The hill is said to be associated with various forms of worship throughout ancient times. The hill was given a sense of structure and enclosure in the seventeenth century, when Pope Urban VIII had a wall constructed.

These days, Gianicolo is better known for providing visitors with wonderful views of the city. After seeing the prime tourist sites of Rome, it’s nice to come here and almost check them off while enjoying the panoramic views too! I recommend coming here during the late afternoon and staying here until sunset.
