Plan Properly: Arrive to Brig Early, or by midday. I got to Brig (the last train stop before Zermatt) at 10:30 pm. You need to take a tram to Zermatt from Brig. I'm not sure of the last tram out, but the first one out is about 6:00am.
The tram also doesn't accept Eurail, so buy a ticket in the train station prior to getting on the tram.  Part of the Europe July-Oct. travel blog
