Ok, So people keep asking how to get to Vienna from the airport.
There are a number of ways. If you have money expect a taxi to cost around E60. If you want the quickest, cheapest way then catch the train! But BEWARE! There are two trains that go and the more expensive one is that one that is heavily advertised: 1. CAT The CAT is a very nice, new rapid transit train that goes direct from the airport to Wien Mitte (also called Landstrasse). The journey takes 16minutes and costs around E9. You can buy tickets on the platform with Euro/Credit Card/Bankomat/ATM card. The machine is in multiple languages and easy to use. You can also buy on the train but it is cheaper on the platform. CAT's go about every 30 minutes. The CAT ends at Wien Mitte which is a central location just to the south of the city centre. From here you can transfer onto the U-Bahn (Underground) to get almost anzwhere in the city. Dont forget to get another ticket for the U-Bahn! U can risk faredodging but they have been checking a lot lately and its a E60 fine. 2. S-Bahn (Normal Train) From the same location as the CAT but it is not advertised. It is simply the opposite platform. The train is called the S7 Trains are every 30minutes and take around 25minutes to get to Wien Mitte. Cost is about E3 Trains run till 11.30pm in winter and 12.30 in summer. I'd recommend this option everytime unless you are in a hurry or have too much money... You can buy tickets on the platform with Euro/Credit Card/Bankomat/ATM card. The machine is in multiple languages and easy to use. You can also buy on the train but it is cheaper on the platform. Check the Train website for latest details as things may change and I dont claim to be 100% on everything! Have fun in Vienna! Viel spass in Wien! Part of the Vienna / Wien travel blog |
