Getting to Druridge Dec 30, 2014
Ideally you need a car to visit Druridge. The 518 bus service between Morpeth and Alnwick stops at Hadston, but there is quite a walk to the sea from there (about 10 minutes to the entrance to the Country Park and probably a further 15 or 20 down to the beach).

Speaking personally, we have always driven. Approaching from Newcastle you can turn off the A1068 at Ellington (following signs to Cresswell) to reach the minor road that parallels the southern end of the bay. There are several places to park along its length, but don’t necessarily stop in the first place you see, as that is likeliest to be the busiest (although in winter, “busy” means that you may see only a few other people). From any parking area, a very short path will take you over the dunes and on to the sands.

The star symbol on my map shows the rough location of the parking area we tend to use if heading for the beach. Further along you can simply pull over on to the verge. The butterfly symbol shows the location of Druridge Pools where we also sometimes stop, though note that access to the beach here involves a steeper descent down the dunes – and climb back up!

Alternatively you can stay on the A1068 and drive north to Hadston where a signposted turning leads into the Country Park. This is more developed, with a good tarmac road and paved car parks, but you pay for this, as parking is on a pay and display basis (we paid £1.40 in 2014 for two hours). In return you not only get these better driving surfaces but also the facilities of a visitor centre. However, once down on the beach there is nothing to choose between the different areas, as wherever you are you get the seven miles of sand to explore!
