Broadway Musical : Wicked Dec 23, 2008
First and foremost, tickets are pricey for the average person, I marked average price because this is New York and high ticket prices are to be expected. We had house seats that were between $130-$180...they were a gift so I'm not sure of the actual price. Either way, this show was fantastic I'm sure from any seat in the house!!! The set was fantastic and the lights were dynamic. Costumes were impressive, elaborate, fun, and not dissimilar from something you might see in a colorful Tim Burton flick. In the middle of the first act the female lead who played Elphaba switched with her stand by. Both women did a phenomenal job and had great voices. The show was about 2 hours and 45 minutes, and could've run longer if they had fit in more details and parts of the story directly from the book by Gregory Maguire. Of course, read the book before the show if you can. I read the book last year and had been dying to see the show since. The Broadway production does a good job of touching on the main conceptual ideas in the book but leaves out quite a few details. If you don't get to read the book first, don't worry...no one around me seemed to be confused, lost, or with questions about the play. It is clear, concise, easy to follow and extraordinarily fun to watch! It is family friendly and there are only a couple short parts that may lead to hand holding with your children if you bring them. There was a small boy two seats over and he seemed to do fine, just got a little wide eyed when the "Wonderful" Wizard of Oz made his first appearance. Take the time to see this show, it is fantastic: innovative, unique, colorful, exciting, provocative, and thought provoking!
