The Gift May 27, 2017
Opposite the tomb of Sultan Ahmet I stands the German Empire's gift to the Ottomans, the Aleman Cesmesi.

The fountain was a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany to commemorate his second anniversary of visit to Istanbul in 1898.

All parts of the fountain were produced in Germany, hence it bears this name. It was transported in its various pieces from Germany to Istanbul and assembled at its present site. The internal face of the dome was gilded.

It stands in the very place where the gate of the ancient hippodrome stood, which was decorated with numerous statues and monuments.
