German Emigration Center Bremerhaven Reviews
Oct 24, 2007
The German Emigration Center is located on the site where the ships departed from the mainland. over 7 million emigrants gathered bremerhaven between 1830 and 1974 to board a ship headed for the new world. it is europes largest theme museum specializing on the topic of emigration. elaborat reconstructions and multimedia productions are used to illustrate a trip through time and history of emigration which spans two centuries.
there are 5 different parts:
bidding farewell: a harbour scene dating back in 1888
the gallery of the 7 million : why did they leave?
on board the ship: passenger decks from three eras of shipping illustrate how steerage passengers faded during the transatlantic crossing.
the arrival in new york: ellis island was the largest receiving station in the usa.
forum migration: research ancestors, trace your roots in the largest international genalogical databases and be informed of aspects of migration today
ocean cinema: listen to emigrants and the descendants tell their personal stories.
the tickets for adults are 9,50€,
reduced (senior citizens, students, trainees, non-employed, disabled) 8,20€
children (aged 4 to 14) 6,00€
in my opinion it is expensive. but if you are interested in emigration and want to know if your ancestors came from bremerhaven it's worth it.
