Gerês is a natural protected mountain range (hightest point at 1544 m) in the northernmost part of Portugal.
Together with the Peneda montain range form the Peneda-Gerês Natural Park, which was the first Portuguese natural park, protected under Portuguese law.

Thats what i call a Rocky Way...
From Arado River and Teixeira's valley, we climb to Borrageiro (1450m), admire Rocalva and Rocanegra, cross deep valleys to end the 15 Km trail. Hard and great!

if you ever end up in the north of portugal i highly recomend that you spend a night, especially if you re camping,in the area of gerez. other then the valley of douro, the national park was definetly the most picturesque places i visited. even though we got lost and it took us the whole day to get there by car i would have repeated the whole trip again. the wild horses, a bath in the cold water of the waterfall, and the friendly park guard who asked us nicely to pack up our tent from the pic...
