We stayed here for six nights at 70 RM a night, WOW! what a lovely place, it has a homey apartment feel to it(it is a basement to apartments above). Location is very good being just at the top of a small hill, a short ten minute walk from town. There are doubles and twin rooms, some with en suite, and some with a small balcony sitting area. There is also a small balcony area to sit on and a small garden area with a table and chair set.

We had a double bed room with shared bathroom(which was walk in shower and western WC), spotless and we only had to share it with one other room. The price we paid included a simple breakfast of toast, yummy marmalade, strawberry jam, bananas and BOH tea or coffee.

One other thing we need to mention is Jay, she runs Gerards place, she picked us up from the bus stand when we arrived, gave us a "potted tour" on the way up to the apartment, gave us loads of very good local information as well as offering the typical tours that all the operators do in Cameron Highlands (but doesn't charge any more than the others in town).

When Angela was ill (later we found out it was dengue fever)this place was a haven for rest and relaxation with no pressure to do anything but chill out. Comfy sofas and free Wifi,(computer terminals also available) TV made it easy to rest. Coupled with the fact that every day Jay would bring in cake around tea time and touch base with all her guests, she made us all feel comfortable and at home! Jays knowledge of the local area is brilliant, along with her knowledge of a lot of the other places we were planning to move onto. She even took all of her guests one evening(again in the rain by car) to the town to see the start of the Taoist ceremony of rain! She is such a supporter of her local area she is a credit to her community.

We did do the mossy forest walk through Jays trips and it was very good, we will go back when the monsoon is over and Angela kicks her Dengue!

Altogether a brilliant place to stay, we cannot recommend it highly enough. It was just what we needed when we had been travelling for a long time.

Home Away From Home! Dec 17, 2012
What can i say about Gerard's Place? It was THE best place we've stayed on our trip so far.

When we first arrived Gerard collected us from the bus station. We weren't expecting this so we were pleased and we came to realise how charismatic, friendly and utterly helpful Gerard was. He took us to Father's Guesthouse to check in (this is where we had made our reservation for) and then took us up to Gerard's Place. It's about a fifteen minute walk from Father's on a wonderful hill. At first i thought they had overbooked by accident and were trying to pawn us off on another, less recommended, place. However, when we arrived i was absolutely delighted.

Gerard's Place is more like an apartment than a Guesthouse. There are about 7 rooms. Two shared bathrooms. A kitchen which has toasters, no cooker unfortunately. The common rooms is just like a living room with a big comfortable sofa and a tv. There is a pretty good book exchange there too with a variety of books to trade. There's free breakfast of tea, coffee, toast, butter, jam and marmalade until about 11am. There is free tea and coffee all day, which we made full use of! The rooms were adequate sized and the beds were comfortable.

Gerard's Place made our stay in Tanah Rata! We extended our trip there from 3 nights to 5 because we loved the accommodation as much as we loved the small town and the mountains. It's like having your own little apartment. Truly a home away from home!

I highly recommend staying here.

Super-friendly stay! Aug 08, 2012
The room is in an apartment. Room (with balcony) was spotless clean and you share a bathroom. The water of the shower could be hotter. The sitting area is also nice!

Breakfast is self-service: toast with jam and coffee or tea.

Jay, the owner, is very spontaneous and super-super-friendly! I had problems with my bank card and she immediately took time to help me out. She even offered us some lunch cause I had a cash problem! ;-) She surely made me feel very welcome!

The place is only a 5 min. walk down from the main street.

Jay also arrange tours (Cameron Secrets) and mini van transfers to Kota Bharu (to go to the Perhentians).

Don’t hesitate to stay here! A lovely stay with a super-friendly host for an acceptable price!
Lovely room!
We played Monopoly at our balcony.
