The Art of French Baking Mar 06, 2010
The streets of Paris are filled with bread and pastry shops. One of my favorites, Gerard Mulot, makes baked goods look like an artform. Beautifully presented breads, pastries, quiches and chocolates are displayed in the windows as locals and tourists alike press their faces to the glass in awe.

The croissants are buttery soft and the raisin bread (pain au raisin) melts in your mouth. The macaroons come in a variety of colors and flavors and are delicious. Tarts are on display throughout the store.

This store is busy and no matter what time of day, there seems to be a line. Most of the customers are local, which is always a good sign.

There is a system to buying goods as food is ordered at the counter. Customers are given a ticket to pay at the register and then return to the counter to claim their order.

No visit to Paris is complete without sampling the fabulous baked goods available and my vote goes to Gerard Mulot. For a few euros, visitors can satisfy their sweet tooths as the food is amazing.
