Average gercamp with staff trying hard Nov 10, 2012
N47°10'48.9" E102°47'26.7" Anar is one of the many tourist ger camps in Kharkorin, situated on the riverbank of the Orhon Gol River in the southwest corner of a lovely valley 2 km west of town. Anar has many gers (24 hour electricity included), a massage ger, a souvenir ger and a big restaurant ger. Our ger was very basic. One bed had a big hole in the middle and the bedding has seen better days. At night staff light the stove for heating. Because the gerroof is completely covered with plastic sheets against wind and rain, exhaustion fumes from the not so well sealed stove deteriorated the interior atmosphere completely.

At the riverside next to the lock is a bar, disguised as a stranded ship. The ablution block is big with warm showers 24 hours. Landry service is available.

A statue of Chinggis Khan overlooks the guests in the restaurant. The restaurant serves reasonable meals. For lunch you receive 3 courses.

Female staff is trying hard to keep the camp clean and operational, but lack of maintenance is overtaking every effort. On a sunny day his gercamp may look nice, but on a windy and rainy day this camp looks miserable.

With a stove to keep you warm Aug 27, 2011
Ger camp Anar is located at the outskirts of Harhorin, if you like it’s about a fifteen minute walk into town. It’s a very large camp, beautifully situated next to a river.

The gers have a basic interior, but there is a stove in the centre. It’s a lot colder in Harhorin than it is in the Gobi Desert, also in the summer, so having the stove is heaven. At the end of the afternoon staff will come in to help you light up the stove and make sure there’s enough wood in the ger to keep the fire going.

The staff will also come in your ger in the early morning to light up the fire when you’re still in bed. This way it will be warmer when you have to get up. All you have to do for this is keep the door of your ger unlocked.

The big downside of this camp is that the toilet- and shower building is quite run down and isn’t kept clean properly. There are also posters at this toilet- and shower building that announce a traditional music show in the main ger a couple of nights a week. It doesn’t mention you have to pay 8.000 Togrug a person for this show. It’s not even mentioned at the beginning of the show, so you don’t have any choice, if you’ve seen it you have to pay.

The show is only about thirty minutes and is not bad. If you’ve already seen traditional music with throat singing somewhere else it has no additional value. If you haven’t seen any traditional Mongolian music performed it’s quite nice, just keep in mind that it is not for free.
