Weekend Fun! May 04, 2010
The Georgia Renaissance Festival is an annual event, held rain or shine every weekend in April-May (and the first weekend in June). Some weekends are themed (Pirates, Family, etc - I always go on Scottish weekend to see the Atholl Pipes & Drums Highland Band perform at opening and a few times throughout the day) and there are ALWAYS turkey legs (so good!). Parking is FREE. You can get a slight discount on tickets by purchasing online or at local Kroger's.

Many people go in full costumes so if you wish, do it! If you don't have your own, you can rent one there or buy a full kit on premises from one of the many shops.

There are plenty of shows, artists, animals, vendors, food, fortune tellers, rides, games and clothes for every taste. I recommend Ded Bob as a fun show - but if you have children make sure you don't attend the "adult" show. The map you receive on entry will assist with this, listing times and content level for ALL shows.

Try to get there before the gates open to watch the actors in a mini-skit as the King welcomes all-comers to the Fest. The employees strive to make it an interactive experience, so be prepared for wordplay and engagement as they stroll throughout the park. Enjoy the jousting show, the royal procession, and throw an axe (it's hard!).

It's a wonderfully full day if you take it nice and easy and enjoy it all!

I go every year - must have: Turkey Leg!, chocolate dipped strawberries, funnel cake - and if you like incense visit the Raven's Nest - they have the BEST!
