One of the best hotels Ive stayed at Jun 13, 2011
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Making the booking was easy. They all (all the ones I had contact with anyway) spoke excellent english. The staff were very helpful both when I called and when I emailed, and pleasantly booked taxis for us, gave us information about the city and generally helped in any way they could.

The building is really beautiful. It was built in the 1700's and still retains its grandeur. The entrance and double spiral staircase leading up to the rooms is spectacular (see pics). The rooms were amazing as well. REALLY high ceilings and thick wooden doors, large comfy beds, a recently renovated bathroom that was clean and with quality fittings, plush carpets and a huge tv. To be fair, we stayed in the first class rooms and when we wandered around and checked out the rooms with shared bathrooms they didnt look anywhere as nice, but unless youre on a strict budget, I would highly recommend spending a bit more and going for the rooms with ensuite. Its so cheap at $100 a night for a double that you might as well. Youll struggle to find anything cheaper for any quality in Lviv. The breakfast was in a gorgeously decorated long room. Very nice breakfast buffet with lots of choice and really nice traditional ukrainian potato pancakes as well as all sorts of fruit, cereals, eggs, sausages etc

So in summary, I loved this place and the value for money was unbelievable. Highly recommended.

Good price & location Jul 21, 2010
George Hotel is one of the only cheap priced hotel in Lviv. Location is great, in center at Svobody street. It's an old hotel, they are redecorating this but the staff is very helpfull and friendly!

I booked the hotel through their internet site and had no problem with the bookings. There was always someone on the front desk that could speak English. The location of the hotel is fantastic, right across from Mickevich Square in the historic center. The hotel looks grand but is a bit shabby and a local told me it was going to be remodeled and turned into a 4 star property in the near future. The rooms are big and the single bed looked out of place in such a large room. The bathroom was clean and modern. There was an old bar fridge that worked but the old TV didn't. Behind the hotel is a cafe that offers free WiFi with purchase.

George Hotel - L'viv Aug 26, 2008
The George Hotel has a fantastic location in the central part of L'viv - walking distance from most of the most important sights in this beautiful city. It is located in a neo-renaissance building built in 1901. The building has a lot of charm and character which I enjoyed. The enormous main lobby has a fantastic staircase and I noticed quite a few tourists stepping in just to check out the building. The hallways are long and wide. Somehow it reminded me of some scenes from "The Shining!"

There are a few negative things to say about this place, but overall, I would recommend it to my travbuddy friends who aren't too picky - due to it's fantastic location, architecture and atmosphere. It was pretty inexpensive too. It really felt like a sort of time capsule - being in a hotel still run like they did long ago! The hotel staff was also friendly and everyone that I talked with in their reception spoke English.

The hotel's 72 rooms are divided into four categories - de luxe, semi de luxe, first and second class. We stayed in a second class room - two beds, a TV, and a sink. So, if you get one of the higher category rooms it should be fine for just about anyone! In our case, the bathroom and shower were located down the hall.

The cavernous rooms have ceilings that must be over four meters high and ours looks like it hasn't been updated since Soviet times. The bed was way too short for me and wasn't comfortable, but for one night, it was ok. The bathroom was quite a distance from the room - the men's toilet is just an old-fashioned flushable hole in the floor - but the women's had a regular toilet. The shower's weren't too clean - at least if your not among the first up in the morning - bring your shower shoes! It was just a tiled room with a shower head, a sink in one corner, a hook on the wall for your towel and a little wooden table to place your stuff on.

Breakfast was included in the price of the room - one night was 220 UAH. The breakfast was served in an ornately decorated dining room - all oriental style with birds and dragons everywhere. Breakfast was served in two courses - first bread, cheese, cold cuts and boiled eggs - then two fried eggs. The same thing for everyone. Juice and coffee or tea too. It was good and the presentation was really nice. But if you didn't feel like eggs that might be a problem!

To sum it up, this is a place I have to recommend. It's not perfect, but it's got great atmosphere and the whole experience was very memorable! Positive points: architecture, atmosphere and a great location. Negative points: difficult parking (a municipal lot where you can leave the car overnight is about four blocks away), communal bathrooms and showers need some maintenance and cleaning, and the elevator is like something from "Final Destination!"
