Good Hotel on the Edge of Temple Bar Area Aug 03, 2016
For our last two days in Ireland we checked into the George Frederic Handel Hotel. The hotel is right on the edge of Temple Bar Area in Dublin. It's only a couple of blocks away from the majority of the bars and restaurants that line the streets.

I had read many hotel/hostel reviews for that area and most contained complaints about the noise levels. Why anyone would choose to stay in that type of area and expect anything less than loud music and drunk people who suddenly think everyone else is deaf so they scream instead of talk is beyond me. Our hotel room was actually pretty quiet, though, despite the bars and restaurants just below us.

This was one of the nicer hotels we had stayed at over the prior week. The bathroom was surprisingly upscale. There was plenty of room for two people to maneuver around in. The receptionists were always smiling whenever we walked in or out. They were very helpful in assisting us locate a laundromat and gave us some advice on the pub scene in the area.

On one occasion I did try the hotel restaurant, Oscar's. I had the seafood chowder which was very good. The staff there was just as friendly as the rest of the hotel staff.

All in all I would definitely recommend The George Frederic Handel Hotel. Great location and great customer service.

George Frederic Handel Hotel Overview

An excellent hotel for those looking for a good quality 3 star property with modern touches in the heart of Dublin's Temple bar district. It is particularly busy with a young crowd on Friday and Saturday nights, and guests driving get discounted parking at nearby Christchurch Car Park. Free WiFi is also available throughout the hotel. (GW 08/2011)All of the bedrooms are very modern, and are decorated in light wood. The wallpaper is based on a theme of Handel's music. The rooms are very attractive, in good condition and the bathrooms are modern. This hotel is situated close to Christ Church Cathedral, located on Fishamble street in Temple bar. Although the hotel was built in 1996, it is located on one of the most historically important streets in Dublin. It is a great central location in a quiet street with the Guinness Brewery nearby. The hotel has one bistro style restaurant, on the first floor, with wood flooring. There is a lively, modern bar situated on the ground floor of the hotel which is truly unique in style. The bar has a live DJ on weekends and is very trendy and chic!It is a fairly traditional style building. The site on which the hotel now stands once housed the music hall where Handel?s Messiah"was first performed. To this day, Handel?s famous work is still recited once a year right outside the front door. A complete renovation of the property has given the hotel a modern feel. The lobby area is small and modern in design.
