Gem Mountain Sapphire Mining - Philipsburg - TravBuddy

Gem Mountain just outside of Phillipsburg Montana is a fun place to take the family. I went with my wife, my 3 year old son and my wife parents. The basic idea is that you pay for a bucket of dirt pour it into a sifter, they show you how to wash it so that the sapphires go to the bottom of your sifter. Flip your sifter over and there are your sapphires. Pretty easy and a lot of fun. We walked out of there after three or four hours of sifting with 70 carats of sapphires 10 of which we gem quality. My wife wants to go again.
